Music Lessons and Live Music in Covington, and what is different about it
Covington is home. I am based here, I play here, and a good share of the bands I work with are Northern Kentucky bands rather than Ohio ones that occasionally cross the bridge.
Madison Live is the room I have played most on this side of the river, and it is a useful reference point for anyone booking a band: a real stage, a real system, and a crowd that has come out specifically for live music. That is a different job from a wedding reception, where the band's job is to fill a room that was not built for one. Both are worth doing well and they need different thinking about volume, setlist and how much stage the band actually needs.
Wedding and event work in Covington tends to be in converted spaces - old buildings around MainStrasse and the riverfront that were something else first. They can sound wonderful and they can be difficult, sometimes in the same evening, and they very often have a load-in that nobody warned the band about. Being local means I have usually already seen the room, and it means the band is not adding an hour of travel to each end of the night.
For lessons, being based in Covington puts me inside a short drive of most of Northern Kentucky, and online lessons cover the rest. I do not run a storefront studio here, so lessons in person happen at the Toedtman School of Music in West Chester or are arranged directly.
