Music Lessons and Live Music in Cincinnati, and what is different about it
Cincinnati is where most of this work happens. Fast Travel has played Fries Cafe, the small group has played Caffe Vivace, and the Elementree Livity Project sessions went out from Radio Artifact. Those are three completely different rooms and they want three different bands, which is most of the reason I run more than one.
For weddings, the city splits in a way that matters when you are booking. Downtown and Over-the-Rhine venues tend to be hard-surfaced rooms - brick, glass, high ceilings - where a full horn section can overwhelm the space if nobody thinks about it beforehand, and where a smaller group during dinner is usually the right call. The larger event spaces and hotel ballrooms are the opposite: they swallow a trio and want the full band. I would rather ask about the room before quoting a band size than sell you the biggest lineup by default.
The teaching side runs through the city too. I teach at the Toedtman School of Music in West Chester, north of the city, and online for students anywhere. Most Cincinnati music schools do not publish a lesson rate at all, which means comparing them takes a phone call to each. Mine are on this site: $50 for half an hour, $75 for forty-five minutes, $100 for an hour.
If you want to hear me play before you book anything, the standing Thursday at Sis' on Monmouth is a short drive across the river, and it is a better audition than any demo reel.
